InCoWriMo 2020

If you’re like me, then the month of November is REALLY known as NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. Over the course of those days, the objective is to finish a draft of a 50,000-word novel! It’s a marathon of a month!
November is thankfully months away, so don’t fret, I’m not challenging you to something quite that drastic. February, however, is less than a month away and it is also a blessedly short month at only 29 days (it's a leap year!). Why am I talking about these months? Because next month is also known as InCoWriMo, International Correspondence Writing Month.
Since we have been talking about getting back into good writing habits this month, what better way to build those than by writing letters? The beautiful part is these letters can be ANYTHING. You can use these letters as a means to reconnect with family and friends, to connect with a complete stranger and make a new pen pal, or as a writing exercise by having your characters write letters to one another. You can use the month to write letters as a means for any creative endeavor that suits you. The ‘More Love Letters’ movement is also a compelling trend where letters of encouragement are given to total strangers that you meet in passing or left on cars or in coffee houses for strangers to find.
The point is to spread something good by writing letters.
There is no word count to maintain, just the habit of writing every day. It can be letters of any length, even just as simple as a postcard! If you miss a day, just make it up! If you miss a whole week, then double up the following one! The goal is complete a total of 29 letters.
Rule one is all letters MUST be handwritten.
That’s right, old-fashioned pen to paper kind of writing. No computers, no phones, not even that vintage typewriter you have lovingly sitting on the shelf above your desk.
Rule two is that your letters are delivered.
(If you are using this as a character writing exercise, share your letters with a trusted beta reader or your editor!)
So what do you say? Are you in?
The Henlo Press is excited to be hosting a Facebook group for everyone who wishes to participate with us! We will be sharing our letters, words of encouragement, and the adventures in spreading some inspiration to others over the month of February, all while building those good writing habits that will stick with us over the course of the year!
Who will you write to?
What will you write?
What unexpected journey could be waiting for you?
