InCoWriMo Resources!

We are less then two weeks out from the start of InCoWriMo! While we have hosted NaNoWriMo for two years in a row, this is our first year hosting an event for the International Correspondece Writing Month! We are excited to be sharing the experience with all of you!

We have some fun things planned, like daily topic ideas, weekly check-ins, and maybe even a surprise or two!

The point of this for us, is creating something positive in a medium we all share a passion for, words. To that end, we want that to remain the focus, while creating a safe and easy-going space for others. The internet is a wide-open space, and once something has been posted, it’s forever etched on the interwebs. With that in mind, we will not be hosting an open space to publicly list addresses. However, we will make another post that allows those willing to leave a comment saying “Open to sharing! PM for my address!” This way, you can connect one on one and share only what you want through private messages.

There are LOTS of groups and organizations that accept letters and cards for a wide range of reasons! Below I have included a few of these groups that all have a meaningful way of spreading encouragement.

Support Our Troops

This is a great way to send an encouraging letter or card to our troops. Your letter will be sent to the group, who then sends them in batches to deployed Army Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen. When mailing these, you will need to place an UNSEALED envelope inside the mailing envelope. They do have some rules to follow, and you can find those

All mail is inspected first.

Cards for Hospitalized Kids

This group focuses on sending handmade cards to children who are sick and stuck in the hospital. For a child, being in a place so scary can have an impact on their ability to heal. Groups like this focus on ways on bringing some joy and hope to them! They have similar rules about how to address and sign the card, as well as an inspection process, find more

Love for the Elderly

This wonderful group sends “letters to fight loneliness” for those who may not have family around to provide encouragement. While based here in the US, they do send letters across the globe. They have a reach spanning 66 countries! As all of these groups do, they have an outline for sending your letters, which you can find
